Final Storage Expansion | Long Term Storage Solution

Hello everyone,

I’m pleased to inform you that the final three slots in the storage array have been filled with, as usual Seagate Exos 16TB drives and array reconstruction is under way as I type. This should give us roughly 45TB more space to cap us out for the current size of disk (16TB) utilized in the array in a RAID 6 configuration.

That being said, requests have been limited to an all time low and it does pain me to do so. As a result, I’ve been putting considerable thought to a better solution than to purging everything every few months.

The most likely solution is going to be a script of some kind or cron job that will look through the list of media, find anything that has yet to be played back within a specified time period, once narrowed down, the script would delete the media that hasn’t seen the light of day in the time frame specified.

This, however, doesn’t mean that said media is no longer available in the future, one would simply need to re-request it and since the space made and maintained by the use of this script would leave a sort of buffer storage-wise would allow for more freedom with the amount of requests I can provide to each user.

This is actually a very small part of a larger project to migrate several of the currently cloud based services offered by the Nobreaks.ca and other related websites to local hardware and then to formally house theĀ  hardware securely, with 1Gbps internet connectivity, redundant power sources and climate controlled conditions.

More on that as it develops!

That’s all for now.
