A Thank You and Introducing A New Way To Watch!

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I sent out an email requesting your assistance in the form of donations to assist me in purchasing a new hard drive for the storage solution to slowly bring back requests to it’s former glory. This morning I woke up to a flurry of support from various users near and far both in the form of PayPal donations and arrangements for other methods. I am deeply touched by all of your support and thank you all for your help in keeping this entertainment train chugging along and giving true meaning to the name NoBreaks.

If you were ever curious as to why it’s called NoBreaks.ca it’s because when I started my collection of media I dreamt of having a system in place that could grow on it’s own based on my specific tastes and be ready for me to enjoy at any time without needing information spoon fed into it every time I wanted to update the collection.

Through the support of my friends and family I was able to achieve this dream and share it with them. Now, I’ve brought it to you the users and in a way you have become part of my family.

Once again, thank you all for your continued support.

Now, onto this awesome new way to enjoy the collection!

Several months ago I stumbled upon a fantastic new piece of code developed by the folks over at http://plextogether.com/ which does exactly what it would suggest, it lets you watch Plex together! But not just on the same screen, on your own screen, anywhere in the world!

Using it is very simple and intuitive. Just read the information on the page. It breaks down like so…

  • Head to http://lightspeedtaco.no-ip.org:8088
  • Hit the “Lets Go” button
  • You will be prompted to sign into Plex.tv via the PIN login page
  • Copy the code to your clipboard via the “Copy” button and paste in in the box after following the link to the login page
  • Once you’ve signed in you can close the Plex.tv page and return to the PlexTogether page
  • Select the PlexTogether Player (BETA) client (Other client supported, see PlexTogether website for details)
  • Hit connect
  • Select a server from the drop down menu that isn’t “Custom Server”, I suggest the one closest to your location geographically based on the two letter country code
  • Now create a room with a unique name and password which you have not used before
  • Hit join
  • Select the server to browse
  • You’ll be presented with familiar looking layout and should be able to take it from there

It may seem like a lot of steps but it actually quite intuitive and easy to use once you get the hang of it.

To invite other people to your room simply hit the invite button in the top bar of the page and send them the link!

The web player is BETA so please expect bugs. I suggest setting it up by installing the Plex Media Player desktop application and using it. You’ll see it as a player when it’s running.

This is somewhat new to me since there have been a few updates since I first tried it out with CommanderBlackglitch as a concept to implement here but I’ll try to answer any support questions I get regarding this as I can.

Enjoy!
