Traffic Scheduling and What It Means to You

Have you ever been watching something on the server when it suddenly needs to buffer for what seems like a lifetime? Many connection issues in general are of course my problem and on my side. One of the larger ones I’ve ignored until now has been traffic scheduling which basically means I limit the traffic flowing in and out of my system where the server resides during what I can best guess to be “peak usage time” which is from 7AM to 12AM EST. During these hours I try to keep my personal network useage to a minimum in order to give priority and breathing room to users watching media on the server. Today I successfully implemented scheduling on all bandwidth intensive applications meaning you SHOULD receive crystal clear video and audio without much buffering during the above listed times. Other side of the coin is obviously that if you’re a night owl then you might be in some trouble. It depends on if I’m acquiring new data for the server and how intensely I am doing so. Lets see how this goes for a while. Please feel free to contact me regarding this and I’m sure we can get… Read More »Traffic Scheduling and What It Means to You

Sleepless Nights now that I can sleep.

The cumulative amount of work done in the past week has been a massive burden to bear however now that the time comes where I can sleep until whenever from whenever. It eludes me. So here I sit. On my couch. Waiting for the sun to come up. On the plus side, Don’t Drive Here is on (the LA Paz episode) which  was missing from plex I believe due to some schedule conflicting showtime at some point or labor day, etc. Whatever. Point is it’ll be there in the well… Now.. Morning.. Then… You get it. In other news. Big Brother US seasons 1-16 will end up on plex in due time. As you probably noticed. The bachelor started up again and is being follow by the no breaks system. Taco out for the night.

More Optimizing, Database Backup Functionality Restored

Hello all, hope you’re enjoying everything. Just letting you know I’m still alive and that the nobreaks.ca site has had a drastic reduction in HTTP requests making for a much snappier browsing experience. I’ve also been playing around with entire site backup to enable quick disaster recovery via an offsite method of filesystem and database. I’ve found a service I’m happy to pay for and have signed on for a year so we’ll see where that leads. My web host also offers a competitive rate of 19.99/month for 250 gigs of secure redundant FTP storage compatible with a mass of backup software and tools. Recently the database connection via SSH was broken for unknown reasons however the issue has been resolved and backups occur daily of both the filesystem and dataases on the ready to restore. Daily Router Restart

Hello all,   Just a heads up that I’ve deployed a script on my router here that will reboot it daily at 5:00 AM EST every day to avoid collisions or other miscellaneous router troubles that have been occurring and that we all know and love. The reboot only takes about two minutes or so interruptions should be kept to a minimum. I tried to pick a time where the least users are likely to be on. Please let me know if this conflicts with any of you night owls schedules and we can work something out. Regards, LightSpeedTaco

Optimization to the Maximum and Finally a Real Backup Infrastructure

Its been a busy week here but it’s all paid off. The webpage is now fully optimized using Cloudflare and Amazon S3 CDN making for quick load times and minimal page size/HTTP requests. Also, I added a secondary CNAME DNS entry, hopefully that will ease some of the pressure on the primary DNS servers. Please let me know if you notice these changes or if you run into any problems feel free to contact me. LightSpeedTaco
