NAS on the Fritz

Hello everyone, It appears that the NAS has become sentient and has a mind of it own. It’s being rather rotten right now though! It will randomly power off and on making stable service basically impossible. Here are the details which are also on the status page. A previously intermittent issue with the NAS has gone hard and randomly powers off and on the NAS typically not through an entire boot and is therefore making the Plex Media Server unusable. The server will be down intermittently very frequently so please keep this in mind until further instruction. I am currently in the process of collecting the appropriate logs for QNAP support and have a contact who can consult and assist in the event of a hardware issue. I’ll try to keep you updated as frequently as I can based on when updates arise. At this point there is no apparent culprit with the exception of some suspicious segmentation faults without timestamps which point to a potential soft issue. Any questions can be forwarded to the team via the contact us page however as stated above I will do my best to keep everyone in the loop. Team LightSpeed

Stability Once Again

Hello everyone! So, good news. The power supply did the trick and the random shutdowns have been resolved seemingly however it may be too early to tell but fingers crossed, we’re good! On another note, the requests page has been on the fritz for some time now so I’ve made some changes to the configuration and logging in an attempt to prolong the service between scheduled soft reloads. Regarding the requests page, I’ve reset the uptime to 100% to see how my changes will potentially improve stability. Plans are in motion to obtain a reserve power supply to avoid any future prolonged outages as we recently experienced. As usual, enjoy! LightSpeedTaco

NAS on the Fritz

Hello all, As I’m sure you’re aware we had an extended outage as a result of a failed power supply on the NAS. However the trouble continues as now the NAS randomly decides to shut itself down. I’ve contacted QNAP and they are requesting the entire device to be RMA’d so more to come on that but I’d like to do this with as little downtime as possible. Stay tuned. LightSpeedTaco

Whats Going On?

Hey everyone, What a night! The persistent networking issues we’ve been experiencing lately have finally been resolved. It took a lot of work and reconfiguration however its over. What was happening was the 802.3ad configuration for the network was constantly trying to restart the network service which would trigger Plex media server to restart as a network change had occurred which would obviously affect it. This would explain the up and down status of the server and the interruptions in playback since the restart of the media server makes the load balancer need to re-query the other nodes on their load averages and make decisions on distributing the load which takes time itself. Overall the performance was suffering and the interruptions were not acceptable. I resorted to reinstalling the OS on the server and restoring certain backed up files to speed up the process. All is well now, so please continue to enjoy and you have my apologies for the issues. Regards, LightSpeedTaco
