Hello everyone, It’s been a while since I’ve had the time to make a post here but I figured you all deserved and explanation for the recent plague of downtime and playback issues. For a very long time the main server has run Ubuntu 16.04 and it’s been great to me however the other two servers were purchased and setup at a later date and for whatever reason I assumed going up a step to 17.04 wouldn’t be an issue, which was true for a while, until 17.10 came along and turned everything on it’s head. Plex Media Server as a clean install on 17.10 was a disaster in itself. Library version information errors, breaking critical aspects of the system like SSH, SSL and cURL. For days on end I dove through logs that ended up needing to be so verbose to diagnose the issues it took hours upon hours to finally find the root causes, yes multiple. It was a trainwreck. Some clients that didn’t work prior worked flawlessly, the usual web player was a total write off and the load balancer was freaking out trying to make heads or tails of each failed session. Hello everyone, So with the new disks in place we are prepared to re-enable the requests system but this time there’s been some changes. Things got a little out of control with the old system’s lenient settings and the result was the rapid consumption of the available disk space which led to the temporary shutdown of the requests system which I would prefer to leave operational as long as possible so to stretch out the disk space as we do not have any more slots available for new disks the requests system will be limited to one of each type of media we offer (Movies, Music and TV Shows/Anime) for a total of 3 requests per person per week. These settings are tentative and basically a test to ease back into taking/processing requests and will be adjusted per user needs as observed. For those who have donated there is the added perk of being able to bypass this weekly limit. I figure this could be my way of giving a little extra benefit to those who choose to donate without completely removing the option for regular users to still submit content. Hello everyone, Well we did it! Thanks to the tremendous amount of support everyone has provided us we’ve been able to purchase not one, but two Seagate IronWolf NAS 4TB hard drives! With this we will once again be able to begin to accumulate new media which we have yet to collect without deleting any of the current collection. Currently the disks are about 40% migrated in terms of the RAID reorganizing itself to accommodate the new drives. Once they’re integrated we will have a grand total of roughly 64 TB of space in the NAS overall. This should be plenty of space for the time being however be aware that we have now completely filled the NAS including it’s two mSATA slots which are being utilized for the SSD cache acceleration feature. This means that we can no longer simply buy more hard disks and make more space. You may be thinking, well, there are 10 TB hard drives available now, why not use them? Hello everyone! Yesterday I sent out an email requesting your assistance in the form of donations to assist me in purchasing a new hard drive for the storage solution to slowly bring back requests to it’s former glory. This morning I woke up to a flurry of support from various users near and far both in the form of PayPal donations and arrangements for other methods. I am deeply touched by all of your support and thank you all for your help in keeping this entertainment train chugging along and giving true meaning to the name NoBreaks. If you were ever curious as to why it’s called NoBreaks.ca it’s because when I started my collection of media I dreamt of having a system in place that could grow on it’s own based on my specific tastes and be ready for me to enjoy at any time without needing information spoon fed into it every time I wanted to update the collection.
