Contact Me Page is Live

As stated in the previous post I’ve setup a contact me page since I had specific ones but no plain old just contact me for whatever reason form. It’ll be in the top left of the menus with the other pages. I also plan to make a picture guide of how to go about registering for use of the server. The process of registering at Plex.tv followed by submission of your email or username that you signed up with as well as accepting the invitation you will receive which will give yo access to the server.

Uninterruptible Power Supply Installed, now with less downtime!

Heres the scoop, A few days ago while I wasn’t home, my room-mate indicated that we had several power surges. Like a fool, my 8 TB NAS had write caching was enabled which it specifically warns not to enable because there is a potential to corrupt the cache and damage sectors of the drive potentially causing data loss. Well, of course, one of my three terabyte drive crashed and I was playing with RAID 0 like a fool and lost the entire array. Now I run two 3 terabyte and 2 for terabyte drives in RAID 5 making for one disk redundancy. At the time I did not have a UPS since most of the commercial ones on the market cost a fortune and barely last 3 minutes considering what needs to be plugged in (my PC, one monitor, the NAS and the router/modem (since we use a DSL connection, power outages do not affect the DSL connection state therefore if your router/modem is still powered, you can continue to use the network no worries. Fortunately I got my hands on a massive business use UPS that weighs 60 pounds, however I had the option to go for a 120 lb… Read More »Uninterruptible Power Supply Installed, now with less downtime!

Safe and Secure

For some time I’ve had a GeoTrust SSL certificate laying around my web hosting services and decided to apply it to this site. All access to this site will now be protected and secure. Great for the admin login page. It used to be on an requested basis, meaning if you wanted the HTTPS version you’d have to type in https://dev.lightspeedta.co and most people would simply type in nobreaks.ca and get the standard HTTP page. Now all traffic is forced to be HTTPS. You shouldn’t notice much change in terms of speed or anything like that for the most part. LightSpeedTaco

Captains Log

While I’m still away from most of civilization I took the time to rectify the fact that I wouldn’t be able to fix problems remotely as stated previously in my last post. Now I can administrate everything from the plex servers settings (even though I could always do that through the plex site) to Sickbeard and Sab as well as the Nas and even my router and modem. Given I have Internet of course. UPDATE: Clearly the one thing everything hinges on goes out. Seems to be a physical issue on our end like a power outage or a cat/assistant administrator got a hold of a certain cable. I’ll monitor the situation and hope everything returns back to normal within reasonable time. Either way I’ll be back at my desk late evening tomorrow. Update 2: Turns out the modem completely stopped working and needed to be reset completely as in not powered off and on but reset to factory defaults and settings restored. While I talked someone through the process of repairing it, Plex wont be available until later tonight. I will update this post once everything is back to normal. Update 3: Everything is fixed! AFK

Hello everyone, I’ll be away from the server for a few days starting today and ending late Monday. So if anything is going on I’ll likely be informed by the server somewhere but won’t necessarily be able to fix the issues until I return. Sorry for any inconvenience! Have a great weekend. LightSpeed
