Damn It Feels Good To Be a Gangsta

Amidst the hail of server re-images peace was found in the form of CentOS 6.5 Final as the OS of choice for the No Breaks Team. I’m comfortable with its file system structure and the bash of course makes sense. The whole idea of having root access to a server albeit a virtual server is something big to walk up to. I think I’ve gotten the hang of the basics as root(god) through my education. I know the dos and don’t s of server administration. The site and server should be stable this was basically a check in that we are alive and kicking.

Optimization and Hosting Stability

It feels fantastic to actually have a server in which I have root access. Prior shared hosting was awful and limited so extremely I could barely do any projects I want to get my hands on. Now with full root access both SFTP and SSH I am one happy camper. I removed the chatbox as it added significant load time to the webpage with all it’s javascript. I will either simply post my little bits as needed or look for a news ticker type form of communication used mainly for site or server maintenance. I’ve also been considering a mailing list which will indicate when, why and how long the server will be down, however a quick look at the site will clarify all. As always, available by the contact me page. LightSpeedTaco

Work Complete and Stability Tested

After solving the issue of excess heat in the system I decided to benchmark and stability test the system to make sure nothing would bring it back down for some time. I’m happy to tell you all that 8 hours of tweaking have resulted in a rock solid system I hope will last a long time. Please continue to enjoy the server and all it continues to offer. Thanks for hanging in there. LightSpeedTaco P.S moments after making this post I was made aware of the fact that the service was down. This was due to a MAC address IP reservation not being assigned properly as I must have re- arranged the NIC cards while doing some cable management. This caused the server to be unaffiliated with the previous settings and therefore become unavailable. The issue has since been rectified and shouldn’t occur again provided I’m not ripping out cards and slamming them back in.

More Cooling Work to be Done

Well I enjoyed the first cooling solution to the system I’ve decided to apply it to the GPU as well. As a result, today’s service will be unstable at best. Once this work is done it’s done and should not require much further work. Apologies in advance, I will update this post with progress reports. LightSpeedTaco

System Maintenance to Occur Today

Hello everyone, Please note that today between 4 PM EST and 12 AM EST the server will be down for maintenance while I make some changes to the cooling system of the server. An improperly sat CPU cooler is what I believe to be causing unnecessarily high CPU temperatures resulting in downtime and lower performance. I will be installing an AIO liquid cooling solution which I plan to retrofit with four 140mm fans rather than the stock two. I will also be swapping the silent low RPM fans for higher performance ones. This post will be updates when the work is complete. Sorry for any inconvience, LightSpeedTaco Updated at 9:44 PM EST Work is completed and the issue seems to be resolved. If there is any downtime up till midnight it is related to this maintenance however I expect things to be stable. Enjoy!
