Operation Lockdown

Greetings users, With all the business about streaming and streamers, etc I’ve felt I need to take more precautions and as a result this is the current situation. My server is hooked up to the internet, although, it’s connection is encrypted. Everything goes through a 256 bit OpenVPN encrypted connection including a specialized DNS service that is also have private. In the event that that connection is not established for whatever reason. (VPN server goes down, my connection goes down, anything that loses encrypted connectivity) my server will lock down and no WAN traffic will be able to cross the border between my system and the internet. Now I know this may slow things down in the streaming state of things however I feel it to be currently necessary and hope that you can understand. Please do keep me informed of stream quality although bear in mind this new policy. The time between disconnection and reconnection is roughly 5 minutes due to Dynamic DNS needing to re register with my new IP once the encrypted connection is re-established. A large flood of requests for content is also being dealt with currently so consider that as well. I’m sorry this all… Read More »Operation Lockdown

Large Data Acquisition May Slowdown Connection

Hello all, I’ve received a large volume of requests that I’m taking care of and as a result the connection for streamers may be degraded somewhat however it is prioritized so it should remain watchable. Thanks for understanding, it’ll all be worth it. LightSpeedTaco

Re-indexing…Again

So its turns out that the last time I migrated Plex, the old library was discarded and rebuilt which took a bit of time however I now learned that the drive the indexing occurred has some bad sectors and is actually quite old. It was having some trouble deleting and updating old index files as a result. So I stuck the library onto the same drive as the actual media which will likely initially slow down performance then speed it up as the buffer for a media file playing is significantly bigger than the time it would take for the drive to look up any necessary index information. So expect slower media performance during the indexing however I’ll update this post when indexing is complete where the drive will mainly be reading and only writing logs and indexing new media added. Sorry for any inconvenience but I’d rather this get taken care of prior to the drive just crapping out entirely and the rebuild needing to happen then. LightSpeedTaco Update: It seems that everything has indexed and updated and now that the index data is on the same disk as the media itself it seems to be running better than… Read More »Re-indexing…Again

Make that ….Neverending

Well that was a long stressful night. My initial plans were to re-install Windows and re-establish the server as quickly and efficiently as possible but a blown NIC made a four-hour ordeal of troubleshooting out of that. Then take care of installing a brand new Cadillac of an AC router. More to come on that in another post. Plex wise, she should be up and running chugging through the content and regenerating any new information that may have formed between the time the server went down and the time the server returned. Wait…brainwave….I didn’t tell it not to go to sleep in the power settings  and wasn’t using SkyDrive therefore I doubt it remembered that so chances are my machine is sleeping right now doing what I should be doing…shit. Well, I’ll wake it in the morning/afternoon but in the mean time, content should be piling up and be waiting to be processed when the server gets around to it.   Overall, stressful, progressive and difficult day and the weather here doesn’t seem to be making tomorrow seem much better but here’s hoping. Thanks for all the patience, LightSpeedTaco

Annddd it’s over.

Well that went surprisingly smooth. Can’t wait for that jinx to kick in and BSOD for days here but so far so good. The media server is re-indexing so give it time to find images and meta data however all the content that was there, is still there, just search for it. New content additions have only fallen behind about an hour so in the next half hour it’ll begin scooping up those delicious goods. PLEASE, don’t hesitate to contact me with any issues, especially after a big change like this. Regards, LightSpeed Ninja edit Yes, you have to accept a new invitation to the new Plex server as it’s a fresh installation and migration didn’t occur as planned. Sorry!
