Seasons Greetings from Nobreaks.ca

Hey everyone! Like it or loath it, it’s that time of year again. The snow, the idiots behind the wheel, the chilly hard drives that need some tender love and care before being spun up. Oh and all the festivities. Regardless of your race, religion, beliefs, creed. You’re all welcome without judgement on Nobreaks.ca  and are all invited to enjoy happy holidays. Feel free to request some special seasonal content and I’ll be more than happy to try and make it available for you. As you can see the website is all decked out for the holidays. Hopefully the snow isn’t too CPU intensive. Please advise me if it is and I’ll tone down the holiday cheer. Coming right up after this post is a big announcement for all the anime fans out there so stay tuned!   LightSpeedTaco

Welcome Back

Hello everyone! Welcome to the finally completed new and improved Nobreaks.ca Plex Media Server. Running on a quad core Xeon E3-1246 v3 CPU at 3.50 GHz with 16 gigabytes of DDR3 RAM in a RAID 6 dual disk failure redundant 18 terabyte array complete with 4 RJ-45 gigabit ethernet connections trunked into a load distributing failover protected mode this is the fastest that Plex has ever been for us and the most stable. Without regular needs to update and reboot for various reasons I expect that this current system will be in place for the foreseeable future. The RAID 6 array not only offers a beautiful dual disk loss redundancy but also enhances the read times as the data can be simultaneously read from 5 of the 7 disks that are not writing parity bits. This should make browsing the loading content from the server lightning fast. With the database being brand new and the naming conventions being perfected prior to indexing, I imaging that this will be one smooth ride. Now I may be speaking too early as the final rebuild of the RAID 6 array is to be completed however I’m confident that this will be completed within… Read More »Welcome Back

Database Corruption

Bad news everyone. As a result of some hardware changes to the RAID array where the Plex database is stored the current listings (the content you see when browsing) became corrupt. I did manage to repair it but not to a level of par that was acceptable to simply put back online. Likely for the next few hours and possibly until tomorrow the server will be offline while it reindexes all the content and gathers necessary information such as thumbnails, trailers and subtitles. I will update this post or make a new one when we are back in business. Sorry for any inconvenience. LightSpeedTaco

Stabilization

Hey everyone, So things seem to have settled down with the server. Now that I’m physically back to the server and managed to get things configured it seems that all is well however I will continue to diligently manage and monitor the server for any issues. Currently it is migrating data to a hot spare drive to speed up things in the event of a disk failure so things may be slightly slower however so far so good. The machine is a beast and has handled all requests without breaking a sweat. Enjoy! LightSpeedTaco
