Hey everyone, Not much was said about this because I didn’t necessarily expect it to work the way it did but here we are. Whats happened is that I’ve invested in a 1U Dell PowerEdge R610 with dual quad core Xeon processors, 48 gigs of DDR3 RAM and 600 gigs of RAID 6 redundant SAS (10k RPM) storage. What I’ve done is give this new server running ESXi 6 access to the NAS where all the content for Plex is stored, gathered and usually served from and setup a Ubuntu 16.04 64 bit VM to act as the new transcoding server thus taking the weight off the NAS. Now, it’s not that the NAS was not capable of keeping up but rather this monster server could do it’s job twice as well. With a total of 8 cores the CPU intensive process of transcoding media for users would be much better handled and leave the NAS to do what it does best. Store data. While many of the services I.E the PlexRequests server run on the NAS, the newly reopened minecraft server and the transcoding (Plex Media Server itself) aspect of things now has its own dedicated hardware. Hello everyone, With a recent update to the PlexRequests application and new feature was introduced which involved regularly checking the status of the Plex server it’s attached to. Upon visiting the requests page you’ll see a status update and any maintenance notices that site upcoming downtime as well as the current status of the Plex server (up or down) within an accuracy of one minute. Please reference this page regularly as well as the twitter account for updates on whats up and worst case the status page on this site for data regarding all server statues if the others are not reachable as all but Nobreaks.ca currently reside onsite together and if the network goes down for whatever reason the local status pages will not be reachable. Hey everyone, From the start of Nobreaks.ca and the Plex Media Server, I’ve been taking care of and expanding, scripting, everything, that you know and love now. But along the way I always had someone to bounce ideas off of and testing things with. One of my best friends and one of the smartest individuals I know, blackglitch, will be taking the role of Commander of the U.S.S Nobreaks. Now, we had a chat one day and decided to randomly assign a type of rank to everyone we knew relative to their contributions through me to Nobreaks.ca and we went with Star Trek/Starfleet ranks. Where I was at the time Captain LightSpeedTaco of the U.S.S Nobreaks, blackglitch became Commander immediately under me and while we lived together, he would be my eyes, ears and hands remotely in my absence. Now if you’re wondering why I was not Admiral, it’s because I was not funding Nobreaks out of my pocket exclusively but rather a group of individuals who shared my ideals of sharing media. Hey everyone, Well it turns out that the service mentioned in the earlier post is not available in my specific building yet and as a result can’t be upgraded to for the time being, but rest assured that as soon as it becomes available to me I will acquire it! In other news I finally got the NAS to utilize the expansion chassis as I wanted and as advertised. Apparently with the expansion units, one needs too create a new RAID group prior to the storage pool being able to expand which doesn’t make much sense to me but whats done is done and now we currently have 44.29 TB of usable storage space spread across two RAID 6 arrays consisting of ten 4 TB disk and six 4 TB disks which will soon be upgraded to 10 disks as well to make for a total of around 58 TB of usable space with two disk fault redundancy per RAID group.
